CALL AND RESPONSE: a musical interpretation of literature

Please join us on Thursday, January 9th at 7:30pm for an interactive evening featuring a story read by Sarah Maria Griffin and a musical interpretation by the Dutton-Rankin-Parker-Pearce Trio! The trio is busy writing their response to Sarah’s writing right now! Don’t miss it; this is only going to happen once.

Dutton-Rankin-Parker-Pearce is the trio of violinist Kristina Dutton, cellist Teddy Rankin-Parker, and drummer Daniel Pearce. Their prepared improvisations draw from a spate of outdoor and indoor influences, investigating the various cross-pollinations of music, dance, theatre, and literature. With a collective background in new music, rock, classical, and jazz, they each bring a unique blend of talents and performance experience to create a powerful heterogeneous aesthetic that is truly contemporary, truly interdisciplinary, and truly improvisatory. DRPP strives toward a holistic improvisation, in which the roles of musician, dancer, actor, and writer may disintegrate, leaving nothing but space, the bodies in it, and their tools of expression.

Sarah Maria Griffin is an Irish emigrant living in San Francisco with a handsome boy and a cat called Moriarty. She writes essays and poems for lots of places and sometimes does things on the radio. She tweets @griffski. Her first book of poetry & prose, Follies, was published by Lapwing Press in 2011. She also makes zines under the imprint WORDFURY and is co-editor of Bare Hands International Poetry Journal. Her book of essays/memoir thing, Not Lost, is essentially an adaptation of ‘oh the places you’ll go’ starring Sarah instead of a nameless boy. It is published by New Island Press & is available in all good bookshops in Ireland and the UK.
