Duo Almir Cortes & João Paulo Amaral

Duo Almir Côrtes (mandolin, classical guitar) and João Paulo Amaral (Brazilian ten-string guitar, classical guitar)

Brazilian acclaimed musicians Almir Côrtes e João Paulo Amaral join forces on a new project celebrating their friendship and the release of their first duo CD, CORDAL.

Together they bring to the stage a musical dialogue brimming with creativity and improvisational freedom, sharing their unique personalities and the experience gathered from solo careers in national concerts and abroad (including the United States, Mexico, Portugal, Spain, Italy, England, and France).

CORDAL encompasses both original compositions and new arrangements from major Brazilian artists Gilberto Gil and Milton Nascimento. The repertoire presents the viola caipira (Brazilian ten-string guitar), mandolin, and classical and electric guitars. In concert, Côrtes and Amaral show their contemporary approach to the diversity of Brazilian music styles, incorporating the sounds of the southeast (pagode de viola and cateretê) and northeast (baião and frevo), choro, and samba.
