LITQUAKE: Modern Tales from the Heartland

The Emerald Tablet is thrilled to host several Litquake events again this year, beginning with Modern Tales from the Heartland on Saturday, October 11th at 7:00 p.m.. Join us!

All roads leading to the American Dream do not necessarily end up at the same place. Some pass through isolation, some through the heartland of family, some through secrets kept and revealed, and some pass it by and head toward community, thinking the American Dream is a little behind the times.

Featuring readings by:

Beth Nguyen sqBich Minh Nguyen teaches literature and creative writing in San Francisco, where she lives with her husband and their two children. Among her honors are a PEN/Jerard Fund Award and an American Book Award. She is author of the memoir Stealing Buddha’s Dinner, as well as the novels Short Girls andPioneer Girl.

Christina Nichol sqChristina Nichol grew up in the Bay Area and received her MFA from the University of Florida. She won a Rona Jaffe Writer’s Award in 2012, and has taught English in India, South Korea, Kyrgyzstan, Kosovo, and the republic of Georgia. Waiting for Electricity is her debut novel.

Stuart Rojstaczer sqStuart Rojsaczer is an American writer, scientist, and musician. He is a former Duke University geophysics professor born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He’s the author of the memoir Gone for Good and has written for the New York Times, the Washington Post, and many other major periodicals, with research articles in hydrology, ecology, geophysics, and geology for ScienceNature, and many others.
