THE SALTED LASH: new zine release party

Please join us on Wednesday, July 17th at 8:00pm for the debut issue of The Salted Lash, a hand-made zine devoted to “adventure, desire and the spaces we’ve suppressed in becoming anxious, isolated, money-driven consumers.”

We must train our senses back to our childhood forests, adolescent back-alleys, improvised bedrooms, those undefined places of transition, disorder or uncertainty when we seemed to exist in many different worlds simultaneously; where the voices of control became lost in a sea of other, more mysterious and atavistic voices. How can we revive these worlds, especially the ones where our imagination soars unimpeded and our sincerest dreams and desires are celebrated? Read the rest here.

Salted LashEdited and published by Michael Berger, The Salted Lash is accepting submissions for the debut issue through July 1st. The release party will be an evening of poetry, storytelling, history and music, celebrating our communal quests and excavations in San Francisco and beyond, and will feature performances by the following:

Neeli Cherkovski, author, most recently, of the Manila Poems and recipient of a PEN Josephine Miles Award for Excellence in Literature, 2005.

Nico Peck, poet, author of the chapbook /The Pyrrhaiad/, a “Queer Illiad” set in San Francisco, and writer at queer city.

A.D. Winans, an award-winning native San Francisco poet and author of over 50 books of poetry and prose. In 2009 he was presented with a PEN Oakland Lifetime Achievement Award.

Maisha Z. Johnson, a queer writer, blogger, and activist.

Kasey Smith, a mixed-media artist, blogger and amateur historian.

Jeremy Hatch, songwriter, composer, performer and educator based in the SF Bay Area.

Michael Berger, publisher of the Salted Lash magazine, writer at The Rumpus, and General Secretary of the Iron Garters Bike Club. In late July, after a decade of living in the Bay Area, he is moving to Las Vegas to study poetry and teach writing.

Zines will be on sale for only $5!
