THE TWO AUSTRIANS OF NORTH BEACH: a book release party featuring readings, live music and the authors in person

The Two Austrians of North Beach book coverThe recently released book, The two Austrians of North Beach, collects poetry and prose by Austrian poets Heinz D. Heisl and Elias Schneitter, and Swiss poet Magdalena Kauz. The texts reflect in part several enthusiastic stays of the poets in the North Beach district of San Francisco. The English translations of their poems and stories have been published by Siemert Press, New York.

Please join us for a release party (the first on the West Coast, and second in the United States) to celebrate the book’s publication, with readings delivered by the authors in person, special guests, and more. An array of delicious complimentary snacks will be offered, and donations will be accepted for drinks. Live music entertainment provided by North Beach saxophonist extraordinaire, George Long.

Photo of Heinz D. Heisl Heinz D. Heisl (born in Innsbruck, Austria) studied music, and is a composer and singer under contract by RCA. Heisl has received several literary prizes and awards. His recent novel “Greiner” was published in 2009. Since 2003 he organizes (together with Elias Schneitter, Magdalena Kauz and others) the legendary literary festival “Sprachsalz” (“language salt”) in Hall Tyrol, where every year beat poets are invited to perform.
Photo of Elias Schneitter Elias Schneitter (born in Innsbruck, Austria) recently published a trilogy about cafe poets in Austria. Several of his poems, prose and other works have been published. Schneitter’s publishing house, Edition Baes, has published German translations of work by several San Francisco poets, including Jack Hirschman, Maketa Smith-Groves, and ruth weiss. Since 2003 Schneitter has produced, in collaboration with Heinz D. Heisl and Magdalena Kauz among others, the legendary literary festival Sprachsalz (“language salt”) in Hall Tyrol.
Photo of Magdalena Kauz Magdalena Kauz (born in Switzerland) is a journalist and documentary filmmaker, and teaches filmmaking at Swiss Radio and Television SRF. Kauz has published a collection of poems, Wortgestöber, as well as a novel, Der Hut, das Wasser, die Liebe. Since 2003, together with Elias Schneitter, Heinz D. Heisl and others, she is one of the organizers of Sprachsalz (“language salt”), legendary literary festival held every year in Hall Tyrol.
